Welcome to Oatlands

Oatlands is a small inpatient mental health facility in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, not far from Pietermaritzburg.

We provide voluntary admission for adults who require stabilisation, therapeutic support, and time to recover in a safe and contained environment.

Clinical care you can trust

Oatlands is registered with the Department of Health and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF), and is a member of the National Hospital Network (NHN).

Most medical aid schemes are able to authorise treatment at our facility.

We are located next to Lenmed Private Hospital Howick and nearby specialist consulting rooms, ensuring access to broader medical expertise if required.

Conditions we support

We specialise in the treatment of:
  • Mood disorders - Depression and Bipolar
  • Anxiety disorders and stress-related conditions.
  • Personality related challenges.

    • Care is structured, supportive, and tailored to each person.

    We also work with patients who have other psychiatric conditions but are not equipped to support patients who are actively psychotic or who have a primary substance abuse disorder.

  • Emotional regulation and coping skills
  • Occupational and resilience-based work

    • Patients are supported by a multidisciplinary clinical team, including psychiatrists and psychologists.

Admission

Admission is voluntary and carefully assessed to ensure appropriate care.

Our team will guide you through a confidential screening process and assist with medical aid authorisation where applicable.

Important note

Oatlands is not a detox or addiction rehabilitation facility.

We are not able to manage acute psychiatric emergencies or active substance withdrawal. Where appropriate, we will assist in directing you to a more suitable provider for care.
